In the early 2000s, Roberto Sarotto senior stashed away a series of spectacular vintages and hid them in various places on the family’s properties in and around Barbaresco. As time went on, the family became concerned that age might catch up with Nonno, so they forced him to reveal the locations of the secret hoards of riservas. This stunning wine is one of those, from the lauded 2001 vintage. It’s also bottled after the advent of Diam corks, and has no sediment as the ageing was done in tank. What’s not to love? Extremely limited quantities.
